Description

No longer under control, malaria is again spreading at an alarming rate, especially across Sub-Saharan Africa. Viewed as a disease of the poor and disadvantaged, malaria, which is spread by mosquitoes, kills 2.7 million and sickens another 500 million every year. A number of United Nations agencies including WHO, the World Bank, UNICEF and UNDP have kicked off a campaign to roll back malaria. They plan to work with governments to strengthen health care facilities, augment the distribution of life saving drugs and provide research for the development of an effective vaccine.
