The Sex Sector

19 April 1999

The world's oldest profession, prostitution, has developed into an important sector of the economy in South East Asia according to a recent report by the International Labour Organization. This industry has developed strong links with the hotel business and the sale of tobacco and liquor. The governments of the region have adopted liberal policies toward adult prostitution, but are sensitive to the need to protect children.
