The recent United Nations follow-up to the Beijing Conference on Women reaffirmed international commitment to the Beijing Platform on gender equality, but much remains to be done. For example, despite gains in employment, Asian women are hit harder by financial crisis and the uncertainties of globalization, according to a report by the International Labor Office.
