Haiti’s Northwest region, racked by financial and environmental degradation, has historically been the launching point for many Haitian boatpeople. But those not discouraged enough to leave, have formed an entrepreneurial relationship called “Project Haiti”, a village-banking cooperative supported by the UN Development Programme and other donors. With the aid of small, low-interest loans and training sessions by experts, small entrepreneurs learn sound business practices, repay loans and even turn a profit.(3'21)
