UN Helps Handicapped Children In Russia

UN Helps Handicapped Children In Russia

28 May 2001

More than most Russian families, those with handicapped children have experienced the hardship associated with the transition from a state-owned to an open market economy. Those unable to care for their children often allow them to be institutionalised. Institutions must be transformed into rehabilitation centres to enable the disabled to reintegrate into society. The UN Children’s Fund, UNICEF, is donating equipment like wheel chairs to help these children.(2'38)
