Description
The Galapagos Islands in their splendid isolation in the Pacific are home to some of the world's oldest and rarest species of plants and animals. Unfortunately, the introduction of feral animals brought in by humans is posing the threat of extinction to centuries-long residents like the land iguana and the giant tortoise. UN agencies are working with the National Park Service of Ecuador to intercept new species that may threaten this special environment. Other efforts include scientific research to aid the preservation and conservation of this world heritage.(4'47)
