Sustainable Tourism In Costa Rica
Tourism is popular in Costa Rica’s resort areas, but little revenue makes its way to the poor who live in the interior among the rain forests. Many of those forests are experiencing a drastic loss of wildlife due to predatory practices. To help stem the loss of biodiversity while earning income, native people are using small grants from the UN Development Programme and a partner organization, ANAI, to draw tourists to Costa Rica’s hidden treasures, like the iguana and exotic birds.
