Afghan Women

21 October 2002

Since the fall of the Taliban one of the priorities of the Afghan government is to establish women’s centres to improve female literacy as only two percent of Afghan women have any formal education. The UN Population Fund and the Turner Foundation are assisting the government with its back-to-school initiative for adult women who want to start their education from scratch or catch up on what was neglected or forgotten during the Taliban years.
