Description

More than 30 percent of the population of the Ohangwena region in northern Namibia live under the poverty line. In order to improve conditions in the region, the Joint Pilot Poverty Reduction Programme was set up by the government of Namibia and the UN. As part of this programme, in 1997 UNESCO established a multimedia resource centre to inform and educate the local communities on a variety of issues. Operated by volunteers, the centre provides a host of services, some which are not available anywhere else in the area.
