Unicef Supports Rural Women With Hiv/aids In Swaziland
In Africa rural women are traditionally the breadwinners of their families. More than 25 percent of subsistence farming women in Swaziland are HIV positive and those affected by the disease are usually treated as outcasts. In 2001, Swaziland Women Positive for Life (SWAPOL) was established to change attitudes and to educate and train the community about HIV/AIDS. They also get assistance from UNICEF to manage vegetable gardens, which provide patients with nutritious food.
