For nearly three decades, Angola was embroiled in a prolonged conflict causing the deaths of tens of thousands of people and displacing millions. Fleeing the chaos of war many left behind or lost their legal documents. UNICEF estimates that five million children in the country have no birth certificates. A campaign is now underway to register all children. So far, over 800,000 children have been registered and many parents are beginning to realize the value of a birth certificate.
