Audiovisual Library

The Audiovisual Library collects, manages and preserves the United Nations audiovisual archives (audio, film and video collections) and make them accessible to a worldwide clientele including broadcasters, independent producers, governments, educational and cultural institutions, non-governmental organizations, as well as international organizations.

Among the major audiovisual archival groups and series are:

  • League of Nations;
  • UN Headquarters construction;
  • Security Council, General Assembly and Economic and Social Council meetings, as well as special events, selected international conferences, press conferences and press briefings;
  • UN Concerts;
  • UN Television feature documentaries and selected out-takes;
  • UN Radio news, interviews and feature programmes;
  • Raw footage of worldwide UN field activities and
  • Thematic and historical archival compilations.

The Audiovisual Library provides clients with on-line or on-site research and referral services about UN audiovisual collections, as well as on-demand requests for high-resolution raw footage or recordings. It also licenses United Nations footage for a wide range of commercial or non-commercial uses. Requests can be made for use in professional news, features, educational videos, multimedia pieces, and other productions by filling out the AV Library Request Form. Requests are fulfilled in the order received.

Photo Library

The Photo Library provides clients with on-line or on-site research and referral services about UN photo collections, as well as on-demand requests for high-resolution images. It also licenses United Nations photos for a wide range of commercial or non-commercial uses. Requests can be made for use in professional news, publications, features, educational, multimedia pieces, and other productions by filling out the online form. The Photo Library makes its collection available to media organizations, publishing companies, governments and non-governmental organizations, researchers and civil society at large, in order to foster public understanding of the work of the United Nations and its goals.

UN Web TV

UN Web TV is the organization’s official streaming video platform for live and on-demand coverage of United Nations meetings and events. It provides the opportunity to a global audience to watch, directly from the source, uninterrupted coverage of meetings of the Security Council, General Assembly, Economic and Social Council, Human Rights Council, International Court of Justice (ICJ) trials, Press briefings, Media Stakeouts, UN Conferences and Special events. In addition, UN Web TV makes available news and feature videos, Secretary-General’s and other UN Official’s video messages as well as promotional and other videos produced by the UN system. UN Web TV promotes the Organization’s core value of transparency.

Viewers are able to watch live and on-demand streaming coverage from anywhere and at any time, in multiple languages (where interpretation is available) and on multiple devices, including mobile phones. The coverage is available through the Web (webtv.un.org) and Social Media platforms, including Facebook (UNWebTV), X (formerly Twitter) (@UNWebTV) and YouTube (youtube.com/unitednations).

Currently, UN Web TV covers meetings and events held at the United Nations Headquarters (UNHQ) in New York, the United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG), the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), the United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON), the International Court of Justice (ICJ) at The Hague, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Rome, the International Labour Organization (ILO) in Geneva, the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), as well as from United Nations conferences held at any location worldwide. UN Web TV is planning to include other United Nations Offices and Agencies on the global platform, in the near future.

UN Television

The United Nations Television (UNTV) provides coverage of all major meetings and events taking place at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, and offers broadcast clients connection to daily coverage via direct dedicated fiber lines. It also manages the main UNTV studios and directs studio productions. UNTV also provides Daily Pool Operations Schedule for broadcasters with coverage of outbound line information.

UN Photo

The UN Photo professional photographers offers daily coverage of meeting and events taking place at the United Nations Headquarters, as well as coverage of UN Secretary-General major activities, credentials of Member States, photo opportunities and high official studio portraits. UN Photo also liaises with major UN offices away from headquarters, UN family organizations and peacekeeping operations to select photographs illustrating the work of those entities to be incorporated into the Digital Assets Management System containing the photographic history of the Organization.

Photographers create photo essays to highlight stories and photo assignments they are involved with, and to showcase those projects and output in thematic essays.

 

All rights of United Nations archival and current videos, photos, and audio assets belong to the Organization.
