Groundwater is fundamental to life on earth. Its contributions range from the provision of drinking water to food production, from sanitation to climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction, from ecosystem and biodiversity support to land surface stability. Yet, due to groundwater's underground and "invisible" nature, the sustainable management and sound governance of this resource have been neglected.
