Description

In review of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence, the Spotlight Initiative and the SDG Action Campaign are organizing an open and frank conversation with senior women leaders in the United Nations System. During the TV-style session, guests will discuss the barriers and opportunities for the UN to achieve the Sustainable Development Goal target of eliminating all forms of violence against women and girls by 2030.   Featuring, Amina J. Mohammed, UN Deputy Secretary-General, Sima Bahous, UN Women Executive Director, Natalia Kanem, UNFPA Executive Director, Henrietta Fore, UNICEF Executive Director, Ghada Waly, UNODC Executive Director and Reem Alsalem, UN Special Rapporteur on violence against women.

Objectives 

1. To discuss frankly the real life impacts of violence against women and girls, and links to each of the Sustainable Development Goals 

2. To highlight the challenges – from normalization of violence against women, to attitudes and norms, impunity, and underinvestment. 

3. To showcase where UN efforts are making an impact – and what is needed to move this to scale.
