Summary
The design behind both the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the African Union's Agenda 2063 relies on coordination between the four pillars of peace, development, humanitarian work and human rights. This focus on the interlinkages between the pillars is often referred to as the 'nexus' approach.
Description

To identify ways to leverage the nexus approach and support African countries, the UN Office of the Special Adviser on Africa (UN-OSAA) initiated an extra-budgetary project on "Strengthening the Capacities of African Countries to design and implement policies that reinforce the nexus on peace, security, humanitarian, development and human rights for the accelerated implementation of the SDGs in Africa".

Objectives

1. Provide an opportunity to discuss specific findings and recommendations from the nexus study. 2. Explore ways to infuse the recommendations into national policy frameworks. 3. Launch the nexus study on the continent, complementing the launch that took place in New York earlier in 2022. 4. Explore the impact on policy processes relating to the SDGs and Agenda 2063. 5. Identify joint actions to apply the nexus approach in the work of the OSAA Think Tank Network.
