UNHCR's Special Advisor on Climate Action, Andrew Harper; Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr of Freetown, Sierra Leone; and SDG Advocate Hindou Ibrahim discuss the urgent need to protect the increasing number of people displaced by the impacts of climate change.

This video was produced by The Stream, Al Jazeera English, in a collaboration with the UN SDG Media Zone.

In 2019 alone, weather-related hazards triggered nearly 25 million displacements in 140 countries, says the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), warning that without ambitious climate action and disaster risk reduction, climate-related disasters could double the number of people requiring humanitarian assistance to over 200 million each year by 2050.
