Press conference by Jean-Pierre Lacroix, Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations, on the occasion of the International Day of UN Peacekeepers 2023.He stressed the need to have unity within the UN and the Security Council to help overcome political obstacles. He highlighted other challenges, such as the increasing attacks against UN Peacekeepers which are becoming more violent and sophisticated. In addtion peacekeeping efforts are effected by disinformation and new drivers of conflict, such as climate change and transnational criminal activities. The A4P+ transformation initiative prioritizes the safety and security of peacekeepers, and also a includes a strategy of digital transformation of peacekeeping to make the best use of new technology to protect, collect and verify information. Also he reports that Peacekeeping operations are working to improve the role and number of women in peacekeeping operations.
