Description

In a statement issued today, the Secretary-General welcomed the efforts of the trilateral mechanism consisting of the United Nations Integrated Transition Assistance Mission in the Sudan (UNITAMS), the AfricanUnion Commission (AUC) and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development Secretariat (IGAD) to facilitate a solution to the political crisis in the Sudan.

The Deputy Secretary-General is in Turkmenistan today.

The Resident Coordinator for Nigeria, Matthias Schmale, today said that the UN in Nigeria strongly condemns the brutal attack on worshippers at St Francis Catholic Church. 

The UN Country Team in Bangladesh expressed shock and sadness at the tragic loss of life and destruction caused by the devastating fire and blast at the BM Container depot in Chattogram on Saturday. 

The Emergency Relief Coordinator for Mali, Martin Griffiths, briefed Member States and other partners on the situation in the country.

In a statement issued Friday evening, the Secretary-General strongly condemned Friday’s attack in Mali, in which two peacekeepers from Egypt were killed and another one was injured.

The Chair of the Liberia Configuration of the Peacebuilding Commission, Ambassador Anna Karin Eneström of Sweden, and the Assistant Secretary-General for Peacebuilding Support, Elizabeth Spehar, have started a mission to Liberia today that lasts until Friday. 

The UN team in Thailand, led by Resident Coordinator Gita Sabharwal, today said that in a landmark session held today, all 76 governors signed a Statement of Commitment for a Sustainable Thailand, focusing on climate action.
