Summary
Senior Officials Meeting on the humanitarian situation in the Central Sahel Region (Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger)
Description
On 27 January 2022, the United Nations, the European Union, the German Federal Foreign Office and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Denmark will host a virtual Senior Officials Meeting on the humanitarian situation in the Central Sahel Region (Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger). The humanitarian situation in Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger is deteriorating at an alarming pace, with unprecedented levels of forced displacement and food insecurity. The crisis is on multiple fronts, with insecurity as the main driver, further aggravated by consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic. The purpose of the Senior Officials Meeting (SOM) is to:
  • (a) review progress in the implementation of the outcomes of the October 2020 Ministerial Roundtable Meeting;
  • (b) renew commitment for the mobilisation of policy and financial support for humanitarian and complementary resilience response, and
  • (c) galvanise political support for principled humanitarian action - based on the recommendations of each country review process.
Member States and partners are invited to participate at the Senior Official/ Director level.
