17th Rafael M. Salas Memorial Lecture "Data and demagoguery: Human rights and development in the disinformation age"
The Rafael M. Salas Memorial Lecture series provides a unique forum for distinguished guest lecturers to discuss important aspects of population and development.
This year's lecture, entitled "Data and demagoguery: Human rights and development in the disinformation age", will be delivered by Mr. Jeffrey Jordan, the President and CEO of Population Reference Bureau.
The lecture will be followed by a moderated high-level panel discussion. Panelists will include Mr. Jordan; Dr. Natalia Kanem, the UNFPA Executive Director; Ambassador Yoka Brandt, the Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the United Nations; and Mr. Chris Rusatira, a youth activist.
The Salas Memorial Lecture series was initiated in 1989 as a tribute to Mr. Rafael Salas, who served as the Executive Director of the United Nations Population Fund from the time of the Fund's creation in 1969 until his untimely death in 1987. Under his leadership, UNFPA grew from a small trust fund into the world's largest provider of multilateral population assistance.
