Opening of the Second Session of the Conference on the Establishment of a Middle East Zone Free of Nuclear Weapons and Other Weapons of Mass Destruction
The Second Session of the Conference on the establishment of Middle East zone free of nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction will take place on 29 November – 3 December 2021 at the UN Headquarter in New York. In accordance with General Assembly decision 73/546, the conference shall aim to elaborate a legally binding treaty establishing a Middle East zone free of nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction, on the basis of arrangements freely arrived at by the States of the region. This will be the second session of the conference to be held annually until it concludes the elaboration of a legally binding treaty of such a zone.
The opening of the second session of the conference takes place on Monday 29 November, at 10:00 a.m.. With the United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, the President of the General Assembly H.E. Mr. Abdulla Shahid, the President-designate of the Second Session of the Conference Ambassador Mansour Al-Otaibi (Kuwait), and the High Representative for Disarmament Affairs Ms. Izumi Nakamitsu.
