Joint briefing by the Presidents of the General…

The joint briefing responds to General Assembly Resolution 75/325 of 10 September 2021, entitled "Revitalization of the work of the General Assembly", and related efforts to revitalize the work of the General Assembly and strengthen the Economic and Social Council.

The briefing will address areas of complementarity in the mandates of the two Charter bodies as the organization takes progressive steps towards the SDG Summit to be convened during the High-Level week in September 2023.

Against this backdrop, the briefing intends to enhance the coordination between all existing processes within the General Assembly and ECOSOC, benefitting from regular scientific inputs and engaging with wide range of stakeholders, including youth. The briefing will take a cross-sectorial approach that is focused on transformation with a view to placing the SDGs at the core of the UN agenda whilst responding to the impact of the multiple and interlocking crises we find ourselves in today. 

The joint briefing will also provide an opportunity for Member States to exchange views and perspectives in relation to the work and cooperation of the General Assembly and ECOSOC.
