The Commission continued its general discussion of item 4 and heard statements by the representatives of Algeria, Malawi, El Salvador, Ecuador and Jamaica; and by the observers for the Sudan, Indonesia, Kyrgyzstan, Finland, Botswana, Nigeria, Jordan, Qatar, Seychelles, the Niger, Ireland,Australia,Mauritius,Slovenia,Panama, the Czech Republic, Zambia, Tuvalu and Iceland.
Statements were also made by representatives of the following non-governmental organizations in consultative status with the Economic and Social Council or accredited to the forty-seventh session of the Commission: International Planned Parenthood
Federation; Asian-Pacific Resource and Research Centre for Women; and New Zealand Family Planning.
Organizational and procedural matters
The Chair announced that he had designated Vice-Chairs Mr. Katsuhiko Takahashi (Japan) and Ms. Isidora Niang (Senegal) to chair the informal consultations on the draft resolution on 10 April.
