Description

On 14 August 2021, the south-west region of Haiti was hit by a 7.2 magnitude earthquake which led to widespread death and destruction. Some 2,200 people died, over 12,500 were injured and up to 800,000 people directly impacted. More than 130,000 homes were destroyed or badly damaged and key infrastructure, including roads and bridges, was wrecked.

The estimated cost of the reconstruction and recovery effort is almost $2 billion.

Six months after the earthquake, on 16 February 2022, the Government of Haiti, with the support of the United Nations, is convening an international conference (online and in person) to seek funds for its reconstruction and recovery framework and action plan to address the outstanding needs.
