There is an urgent need for more coherent approaches to expand UHC in armed conflict, fragile settings and other emergencies.
There is an urgent need for more coherent approaches to expand UHC in armed conflict, fragile settings and other emergencies. Efforts must be enhanced to prevent and mitigate attacks on health care in all emergency settings, to ensure the delivery of health care, to protect health systems, and promote the right to health for all.
Ensuring UHC in emergencies also requires bringing together humanitarian and development actors to strengthen and support national health systems, build resilience to scale-up and sustain core public health capacities, whilst supporting, and when necessary, delivering, essential lifesaving interventions.
This initiative aims at creating a momentum for the issue of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in situations of emergency, ahead of the High-level year on UHC in 2019. To this end, a call to action will be launched at the occasion of the side-event.
