Summary
The event will gather officials from the governments, business sector and civil society of Canada, Mexico, the United States and UNESCO. It will provide a forum for discussion, networking, and collaboration to address anti-Black racism and the ways in which the rights and freedoms of people of African descent can be strengthened through the Partnership.
Description
The information gathered during the event will be used by Canada, Mexico, and the United States to inform the action plan for implementing the Partnership. It will also set the stage for an effective follow up on issues related to racism and discrimination at the UNESCO's Global Forum against Racism and Discrimination to be held in November 2023 in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Dr. Epsy Alejandra Campbell Barr, Chair of the UN Forum on People of African Descent, and Gabriela Ramos, Assistant Director General for Social and Human Sciences at UNESCO, will introduce the event. Speakers will include Peter Flegel (Executive Director of the Federal Anti-Racism Secretariat), Claudia Olivia Morales Reza (President of the National Council to Prevent Discrimination) and Desirée Cormier Smith (US Special Representative for Racial Equity and Justice), as well as leaders from civil society organizations spearheading anti-racism initiatives on the ground.
