Summary
The United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT)-led Global Programme on Security of Major Sporting Events, and Promotion of Sport and Its Values as a Tool to Prevent Violent Extremism ("Global Sports Programme") is organising a virtual 90-minute Roundtable to discuss the power of sport to prevent violent extremism (PVE).
Description
Building on the resounding success of the #MoreThanAGame campaign, which was launched by the UNOCT-led Global Sports Programme in partnership with Generation Amazing Foundation, UNOCT and its partners will host a virtual 90-minute Roundtable to discuss the power of sport to prevent violent extremism (PVE). The Roundtable aims to further broaden conversations on how sport can positively influence lives - crossing borders, generations, and diverse communities. Additionally, the virtual Roundtable will commemorate the United Nations General Assembly designation of 12 February as the International Day for the Prevention of Violent Extremism as and when Conducive to Terrorism. Representatives from international organizations, sport federations, civil society organizations, private partners, and media entities, as well as youth leaders and National Focal Points (NFPs) designated to represent Member States within the Global Sports Programme will converse on sport-based PVE policymaking and activities, grassroot S4D and the role of athletes and sporting events in creating healthy, inclusive and prosperous societies with the aim of building resilience against violent extremism and hate narratives.
