Gender equality plays a fundamental role in achieving the goals of the Least Developed Countries (LDCs). Women make key contributions in the areas of agriculture, water management, education and financial inclusion, to cite a few. Empowering women in LDCs has a direct impact in food safety and productivity. Providing them with economic opportunities have considerable intergenerational payoffs and is essential for poverty reduction.

Investing in women and girls in science, technology and innovation (STI) in the LDCs is imperative. UN and countries can support this endeavor through South-South cooperation. In commemoration for the International Women's Day, UNOSSC and ICGEB are organizing an interactive dialogue among senior women representatives from the UN system and young female scientists from LDCs. A special documentary series featuring 5 young women scientists' journey will be premiered after the interactive dialogue.

The Ministerial Meeting on South-South Cooperation -- "Renewed partnerships for actionable solutions in support of implementation of the DPoA" is aimed to forge new partnerships, and explore concrete, innovative and actionable solutions in support of the deliverables of the DPoA through multi-stakeholder participation of the global South and development partners.
