Security Council Meets on Admission of New Members

Amar Bendjama, Permanent Representative of Algeria to the United Nations, addresses the Security Council meeting on the admission of new members.

The voting concerned the Letter dated 3 April 2024 from the Secretary-General addressed to the President of the Security Council (S/2024/286) regarding the admission of Palestine as a UN member state. The resolution received 12 votes in favour, 1 against (United States), and 2 abstentions (United Kingdom and Switzerland). The resolution was not adopted due to the veto by one of the Permanent Members of the Security Council (United States).
