General Assembly Adopts Resolution on Conservation and Sustainable Use of Marine Biological Diversity of Areas beyond National Jurisdiction

Jörundur Valtýsson (left), Vice-President of the 78th session of the General Assembly and Permanent Representative of Iceland to the United Nations, chairs the 72nd plenary meeting of the General Assembly.

The Assembly adopted a resolution on an "Agreement under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea on the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Marine Biological Diversity of Areas beyond National Jurisdiction". During the meeting the General Assembly also heard from the Head of the International Mechanism for Investigating, Prosecuting Crimes in Syria. Under other business, the General Assembly considered a number of draft resolutions and decisions that the Fifth Committee recommended for adoption.
