Security Council Meets on Non-proliferation
Pedro Comissário Afonso (below at table), Permanent Representative of the Republic of Mozambique to the United Nations and President of the Security Council for the month of May, chairs the Security Council meeting on Non-proliferation.
The Council voted on a draft resolution on non-proliferation and outer space introduced by the Russian Federation.
The resolution received seven votes in favour (Algeria, China, Ecuador, Guyana, Mozambique, Russian Federation and Sierra Leone), one abstention (Switzerland), and seven votes against (United States, France, Japan, Malta, Republic of Korea, United Kingdom and Slovenia).
The resolution was not adopted having failed to obtain the required number of votes.
