Deputy Permanent Representative of United States Briefs Press on Protection of Civilians in Armed Conflict

Security Council today adopted a resolution on the protection of civilians in armed conflict. The Resolution calls upon all States to respect and protect humanitarian personnel and United Nations and associated personnel, including national and locally recruited personnel, in accordance with their obligations under international law. It further calls upon all States and parties to armed conflict to respect and to ensure respect for applicable international humanitarian law in all circumstances; and recalls the obligations under the Geneva Conventions of 1949 and their Additional Protocols.
