General Assembly Elects President of 79th Session of General Assembly
The General Assembly today elected Philemon Yang of Cameroon as President of the seventy-ninth session of the United Nations General Assembly. The President was elected by acclamation. At an informal dialogue with Assembly members in May, then candidate Yang, highlighted his theme for the 79th session as "unity in diversity, for the advancement of peace, sustainable development, and human dignity for everyone everywhere".
