President of General Assembly Visits South Sudan
Dennis Francis (centre right), President of the seventy-eighth session of the General Assembly, meets with internally displaced people in Juba. Some internally displaced persons (IDP) in South Sudan have remained in IDP camps for over a decade.
The President of the General Assembly is visiting South Sudan. During his visit he met with Salva Kiir Mayardit, President of the Republic of South Sudan, and discussed peace and stability in relation to the implementation of the peace agreement, humanitarian and development assistance, and support for democratic processes, including elections. He further met with internally displaced peoples, community leaders, local media, as well as witnessed the work of the UN Mine Action Service.
