Security Council Rejects Resolution Demanding Immediate Ceasefire in Middle East

Majed S. F. Bamya, Deputy Permanent Observer of the State of Palestine to the United Nations, addresses the Security Council meeting on the situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian question.

Security Council voted on a draft resolution stating that the Council "demands an immediate, unconditional and permanent ceasefire to be respected by all parties; and further reiterates its demand for the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages". The resolution received 14 votes in favour, one vote against (United States). The resolution was not adopted due to the veto by one of the Permanent Members of the Security Council (United States).
