Fishing in Cabo Verde

A man works on a fishing boat in Praia. The boat is being rebuilt to be able to head out further from the shore in order to help increase the catch as fish is moving out further than traditional fishing boats can reach. The boat will be donated to the community which in turn will supply part of its catch to a local school to supplement protein in the school lunch for the children.

The idea behind the concept of the Blue Economy is to sustainably use the ocean as a tool for lifting people out of poverty, while protecting its valuable ecosystems. The Blue Economy seeks to promote economic growth, social inclusion and preservation or improvement of livelihoods while at the same time ensuring environmental sustainability—all issues integral to the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals.
