Security Council Adopts Resolution Authorizing AUSSOM

James Kariuki (right), Deputy Permanent Representative of the United Kingdom to the United Nations, addresses the Security Council meeting on the situation in Somalia prior to a vote on resolution 2767 (2024) authorizing the African Union to deploy a new peace support mission in Somalia, the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM).

The resolution was adopted by 14 votes in favour and one abstention (United States). The United Kingdom is the penholder on the resolution.
