Security Council Meets on Situation in Somalia
Dorothy Shea (left at table), Deputy Permanent Representative of the United States Mission to the United Nations and President of the Security Council for the Month of December, chairs the Security Council meeting on the situation in Somalia.
During the meeting the Security Council adopted resolution 2767 (2024) authorizing the African Union to deploy a new peace support mission in Somalia, the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), for an initial period of 12 months, starting on 1 January 2025.
The resolution was adopted by 14 votes in favour and one abstention (United States).
