Security Council Meets on Maintenance of International Peace and Security

Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett (left), Permanent Representative of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana to the United Nations and President of the Security Council for the month of June, is getting ready to chair the Security Council meeting on the maintenance of international peace and security.

Secretary-General António Guterres later told the Security Council that the bombing of Iran's nuclear sites by the United States marks a "perilous turn", warning that the region cannot endure yet another "cycle of destruction." The Secretary-General said there must be an immediate ceasefire and returned to "serious, sustained negotiations."
