Security Council Holds 10001st Meeting on Non-proliferation

The Security Council votes on a draft resolution to maintain the suspension of sanctions on Iran, during the 10001st Security Council meeting on Non-proliferation. The resolution received 4 votes in favour, 9 against, and 2 abstentions, and was not adopted as it did not get the required nine votes in favour.

France, Germany, and the United Kingdom (the "E3") triggered the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) "snapback" mechanism, which could lead to the reinstatement of previously lifted United Nations sanctions.
