General Assembly Holds 72nd Plenary Meeting

The General Assembly votes on a draft resolution on the "Appointment of members of the Independent International Scientific Panel on Artificial Intelligence" during the 72nd plenary meeting of the General Assembly. The draft resolution was adopted by recorded vote with 117 in favour, 2 against and 2 abstentions.

At left at dais is Annalena Baerbock, President of the eightieth session of the United Nations General Assembly, and at right is Kenji Nakano, Chief of the General Assembly Affairs Branch, Department for General Assembly and Conference Management (DGACM).

The meeting discussed appointment of members of the Joint Inspection Unit and the Independent International Scientific Panel on Artificial Intelligence. The Assembly also took note of the letters from the Secretary-General concerning Member States in arrears in the payment of financial contributions to the United Nations within the terms of Article 19 of the Charter.
