Security Council Meets on Situation in Middle East

Michael G. Waltz, Permanent Representative of the United States of America to the United Nations and President of the Security Council for the month of March, votes during the Security Council meeting on the situation in the Middle East.

Security Council adopted Resolution 2817 (2026) condemning in the strongest terms the attacks by the Islamic Republic of Iran against the territories of Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Jordan and determines that such acts constitute a breach of international law and a serious threat to international peace and security, during the Security Council meeting on the situation in the Middle East. The Resolution was adopted by 13 votes in favour; 0 against; and 2 abstentions (China, Russian Federation). The Council also voted on a second draft resolution submitted by Russian Federation. The draft resolution received 4 votes in favour (China, Pakistan, Russian Federation, Somalia); 2 against (Latvia, United States of America); and 9 abstentions (Bahrain, Colombia, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Denmark, France, Greece, Liberia, Panama, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland). The second draft resolution was not adopted, having failed to obtain the required number of votes.
