Security Council Approves Mandate for UN Mission in Colombia
The Security Council unanimously adopts resolution 2307 (2016), welcoming the recent peace agreement between the Government of Colombia and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia--People's Army (FARC-EP). The Council approved the Secretary-General's recommendations regarding the size, operational aspects and mandate of the UN Mission in Colombia, including the deployment of 450 unarmed observers to assist the parties in laying down their arms and ending a half century of conflict in the South American nation.
