UNMISS Peacekeepers to Climb Mount Kilimanjaro
Three peacekeepers serving with the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) departed from Juba on 21 December bound for Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. The peacekeepers plan to climb the mountain (the tallest in Africa) in the days leading up to Christmas and to plant the UN flag at the top as a symbol of peace for all countries and, specifically, peace for South Sudan. The climbers are Lieutenant Colonel Dipinder Virk (left), of the Indian Battalion; Major Liviu Chende (centre right), of the Romanian Contingent; and Major Vikash Kumar (right), of the Indian Battalion, pictured here in Juba with Lieutenant-General Yohannes Gebremeskel Tesfamariam, Force Commander of UNMISS, on 18 December.
