UNMISS Assists in Plane Crash Search and Recovery Operation in Juba
The United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) provides support to the Government of South Sudan in the search and recovery operation surrounding a civilian cargo plane on 5 November, 2015. The plane crashed shortly after takeoff from Juba International Airport on 4 November, with reports claiming upwards of forty lives lost and only one survivor, an infant.
The goal of the operation was to locate and extract any existent human remains, as well as to extract mechanical remains and, if possible, the aircraft's data recorder, to assist in the investigation into the cause of the crash.
