Assembly Approves Appointment of New Human Rights Commissioner
The General Assembly approved the appointment of Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein of Jordan as the new United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, for a term of office of four years, beginning on 1 September 2014 and expiring on 31 August 2018. Prince Zeid succeeds Navi Pillay of South Africa, who has served as High Commissioner for Human Rights for the past six years.
