UN Celebrates Nelson Mandela Day, Tends to Newly Planted Trees

The United Nations is partnering with MillionTreesNYC to care for dozens of newly planted trees near the UN Headquarters and in the community of East Harlem, New York City.
Civil rights activist Reverend Jesse L. Jackson Sr. (right of tree) helps Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon (second right from tree) mulch a young tree at today's special event. To the left of the tree are Baleka Mbete, Speaker of the National Assembly of South Africa, and John W. Ashe (second left from tree), President of the sixty-eighth session of the General Assembly.
