Villagers in North Darfur Seek Refuge Near UNAMID Base
In the aftermath of a tribal conflict that erupted on 7 March, an estimated 55,000 people from Saraf Omra and neighbouring villages were displaced. Many sought refuge in the vicinity of the African Union-United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) in town, while others moved to villages in Central and West Darfur. The feuding communities signed a cessation-of-hostilities agreement on 12 March and the situation has since stabilized seeing the majority of residents return to their homes. However, a few thousand are still displaced.
