UNAMID Deploys Troops to Gereida in South Darfur

The African Union-UN Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) has deployed a battalion of more than 800 peacekeepers to the Gereida area of South Darfur. Residents of the area's Forika camp for internally displaced persons (IDPs) have been the targets of rape, robbery and other violations.
