US Assistant Secretary of State Briefs on Malian Refugee Crisis

At a press conference in Geneva today, Anne C. Richard, United States Assistant Secretary of State for Population, Refugees, and Migration, speaks to reporters about her recent visit to the Damba refugee camp in Burkina Faso. She accompanied António Guterres, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), to the camp, which is currently home to some 1,200 Malian refugees. Since January, over 250,000 people have poured into neighbouring countries to escape armed conflict and political instability in Mali.
